Controversy … change … and one of the most anticipated events in mental health history, the DSM-5 (a registered trademark of the American Psychiatric Association) is going to change the way you view, diagnose and treat mental illness.
For the first time ever, the DSM depends on and incorporates evidence from the neurosciences, genetic studies, twins studies, and overall areas of research that had been largely ignored in previous editions of the DSM. One of the biggest changes in the new edition is a dramatically fresh approach to diagnostics. The new DSM is intended to better fit with the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) – requiring a new paradigm and new diagnostic skills. Invest in your career -- after years of anticipation and delay – be prepared for the DSM-5® debut in May 2013 and how it will affect your practice.
